AD4802 Photo-story// Re-visiting magazine layout

I have decided, after recieving feedback, to re-visit my magazine. I initially rushed it and didn’t spend enough time refering to my chosen magazine and target audience. I am going to plan out the layout better and refer to National Geographic’s articles to make sure it suits the same format as they publish.

Earle and Marden | Type Supply

Example

This is an example of an article published in National Geographic. The title is towards the top of the spread, with the context text of a large format, informing readers of the purpose of the article. There has been one image published on this spread which is big and spread across the two pages. Writing can be found on both sides of the spread, allowing for the pages to flow.

The Design Philosophy of National Geographic - Deklin Versace - Medium

This is the inspiration for my magazine. After researching my target audience and specificly National Geographic, I decided that this layout would be the best way to present my work. The text is informative and relevent, with the style being formal but also structured in a creative way. Initially I presented my magazine in a simple way which let the article down, due to the lack of structure it had. This layout is still simple, yet effective in being easy to read, as well as visually pleasing. I especially like the image being spread over two pages as this keeps the article aesthetically pleasing in a relevent way and brings the text alive. A lot of National Geogrphics articles include large images with some text surrounding it to inform readers of its purpose. I will refer to this layout when re-making my magazine.
