AD4803 Street//Set Exercise 002 HOMEWORKING SET EXERCISE NUMBER 2: Covid-19 Light, Colour and Contrast

For this exercise I thought I would incorporate it into my 30 days project. I started with the three images below, recording light and exposing for highlights and then continued with this task in mind in order to carry on experimenting and recording light, colour and contrast.

Exploring light: Exposing for highlights

I am pleased with the outcome of these images, I wanted to use the shadows and highlights to break up the frame and make the shots more interesting. I exposed for the highlights, menaing the images are quite dark to highlight the light coming through.

Documenting colour: Use of colour to highlight story

For these images I focused on using colour to tell a story. During this time rainbow drawings/painitngs have become an iconic part of isolation in supporting the NHS and keyworkers. I thought it would be a good idea to document this and focus on colours. I thought about composition and a the rest of the colours in the frame. I focused on neutral colours, with the colourful rainbows.

Light and contrast

For these shots I exposed for the highlights. There was minimal lighting in the room, which was why I thought using them to show shadows and contrast would work well. ALthough the contrast is soft, with the highlights not being too strong, the images work in creating a sort of eeriness, showing that lighting can create mood, in this case being eery.

Light and contrast

After experimenting with soft contrast and light, I wanted to try a stronger contrast. I waited until early evening for the sun to be low making the highlights stronger and used my dad as a subject. I made sure his face was in the highlight and used the shadow diagonally across him to show contrast.
