Diary of a Pandemic: April 24, 2020

The fifth in a weekly series of curations of images made by Magnum photographers around the world, working and living under varying degrees of social restriction

Antoine d’Agata
Val-d’Oise, Taverny. Ile de France. France. March, 2020.

“Disposable Gloves on the ground. They are supposed to be the new essentials.”

I found this shot published on magnums page. I like how simple the concept is, but it shows how we have responded in a negative way to wearing PPE and disposed of them as litter. D’Agata has documented gloves he has found that people have chucked on the floor. He has presented the outcomes as a montage as one image. He has taken the images in portrait, with the subject central. He has taken the image from above, looking down at the gloves. It appears that an iso of around 200 has been used and an aperature of arounf f/8.

I would like to produce similar images to this in my work and will recreate his work if I come across a similar scene.
