BBC News: Coronavirus: Photos show deserted lockdown locations at high noon

This is a photo story that was published on BBC news. It shows a collection of images from various artists from around the world, all linked by one common theme, time, all taken on the same day. Each image shows a scene which would usually be filled with people at mid day, but instead minimal or no people are in the landscapes. I have selected several images from the photo-story aon this blog. Even though the images are shot by different people the clocks and watches telling they still work togther as one story. This just shows how important it is to have a theme within a photo-story to connect each image and for it to flow.

This is the first image from the story. It does stand out and make you want to look at the series. It shows a market near the Imam Ali shrine in Najaf, Iraq. To the left of the image a boys hand can be seen holding a pocket watch out with the time reading 12pm. The image has been taken so that his hand is almost out of proportion with the scene. Even though his hand isn’t in the centre it still grabs your attention due to the composition.

This image is the last from the series. It shows a man looking at his phone with his hand showing his watch. He stands to the right of the frame, with his watch being just off centre. You can still see quite a lot of people in the frame, which to me, doesn’t work with the theme and message of the story. I especially dislike this image as the final shot, I don’t think it hold enough emotion/powerful messsage to be the last shot, which is usually the last impression from a series. I would have used a more powerful image, due to the nature of the theme and the message it is portraying.

I also plan to incorporate a common theme and object in my project, which will most likely be gloves and masks.
