I chose this shot, by David Hurn, as it gives us a personal insight into his life in isolation. I like the way shes shot it from his own perspective. The height of the camera and angle towards the woman suggests it’s at his eyelevel. It also adds to the effect that there is a viewfinder visible within the shot, again, creating an eye view effect. I also like the concept of his neighbour bringing him shopping, as this shows us a sense of community and shows the more positive side of people coming together in a time of crisis. The light source seems to be solely from sunlight, which is behind the subject. The aperature is around f/8, and the shutter speed would be reasonably fast, due to the amount of light, possibly around 1/250. The frame is broken up with aspects such as the door and gate. The shot also holds context about where they are, as a Welsh flag can be seen to the right.
How it relates to my photo-story:
I chose to look at this image in response to my project as I feel it offers a personal experience into documenting the pandemic. This is an approach that I could take into shooting for my project. I also feel like the way Hurn uses a door to frame his subject makes an average seen look more interesting and it also works with the story being told within the shot.
