Day ten: Recording light and contrast
Morning light trail. Another sunny day, makes the process of isolation easier and better.
Day eleven: Colour and angles
Following Pepper around the garden as she makes the most of the 24/7 company since isolation. Using the bright colours of the garden.
Day twelve: Light and shadow
Went on a short walk, admired the neighbours efforts to support key workers.
Day thirteen: Colour and light
Using the last day of sun for the foreseeable future to finish the decking.
Referring to my earlier research from Carolyn Drake, I approached some DIY documentary photography in a similar manner. She gets down on the subjects level and does’t shoot face on in a sandard way. I kept this in mind whilst shooting and found the outcomes to be quite interesting.

Day fourteen: Frame within frame
The sun has gone and so has my positivity and motivation. I used photography to document and reflect my mood.
Day fifteen: Framing
First and probably last attempt at self portrait. Recreated shots.
This was from one of the set tasks where I recreated a shot. The aim was to create a frame within a frame, which I had a lot of fun with. I used Blake Andrews’s images from his project, Driving while phoned, and used a couple of examples to produce similar outcomes.

Day sixteen: Technique
Stopped raining for 30 mins, grabbed my camera and a flask of coffee, went on a walk. Documenting the neighbourhood and community for the key workers. Pleased with the outcome and will be looking back on these images in years to come when it’s all a distant memory.
Day seventeen: Shadows
Dad paints the bedroom ready for my younger sister to move in. I like the darkness the image portrays, the dust sheets make the scene look like an abandoned house.
Day eighteen: Strong sun and shadows
Dad sits in the garden enjoying the last bit of the sun for the day. It hasn’t rained and we enjoy being in the garden rather than being stuck inside.
Day seventeen: Closed salon- natural lighting
I visit my work which is closed due to the pandemic. I have permission from my boss to use hair colours to do a DIY job on myself. Brought my camera as I knew an empty salon would be a good photo opportunity.
Day ninteen: ‘A disposable word is for disposable people’
Drove past this area with hundreds of disposed gloves. Luckily I had my camera and parked up and got out to take pictures. Even though there is a pandemic due to a deadly virus, are we, humanity, more distructive to the planet?
Antoine d’Agata was a photographer I looked at early on incase I came across any gloves in the street. I was really thankful I completed this research when I drove past loads of gloves. His approach was to take an image from above and create a monatge. I got a couple of similar shots, but also wanted to document the gloves in masses, which was where I took my own approach, still referring back to D’Agata‘s way of isolating the subject.

Day Twenty: Portraits
Missed doing portraits, so I used my dad to take some using natural lighting. Wanted to produce a documentary feel to them. Also made the most of the lighing and shadows.
Day Twenty one: Shooting through something
Went to do the weekly food shop that I would usually do by myself but convinced my dad to help. At the checkout I realised we were on a screen so decided to take a picture. Thought the toilet roll was a good addition due to it becoming a iconic part of the pandemic because of panic buyers and the hunt to find them.
Day Twenty two : Documenting grandparents
In celebration of my grandads birthday, the grandparents came over for a social distancing drink in the garden. I planned to decorate the garden with balloons but they came over earlier than expected. Greatful to have seen them for the first time in weeks. Gran brought her cleaning products and far too much hand sanitizer for one trip- ‘better to be safe than sorry Jod’

Day Twenty three : A day at home
Spent the day at home, ventured out into the garden with my camera.
Day twenty four: Flash to make subject pop
In preperation for studio I practiced using flash outside in daylight.
Day twenty five: Experimenting with fashion
In preperation of studio, experimenting in the garden
Day twenty-six: A walk with the cows
I am realy pleased with the outcome of my second attempt at 30 days. I gained a few good images from my last attempt, but I didn’t complete research or get technical with my outcomes, this time I tried a lot more. I researched photographers and used their styles and techniques in my own work and developed as I went alomg accordingly. I feel like I have some good shots amongst this project. In my first attempt I shot last minute from forgetting, where as this time I always brought my camera with me and made sure I thought about what kind of outcomes I wanted and made sure I was going out of my way to shoot.
