AD4802 Photo-Story//Shoot 1

I am pleased with my intial shoot and used it as an opportunity to trial out my new idea. My plan was to shoot from my car and offer an alternative view of life in lockdown by using my car as a metaphor for social distancigg and isolating. I went to two different locations to shoot, one beig Mcdonalds and the other a supermarket car park. I decided to go to Mcdonalds as it is one of the most well known fast food branches in the world, so to document it empty was somehthing I felt would work well in showing the difference of life suring a pandemic. I used my car to frame the shots and make them more interesting than a standard shot. I also felt that using the metaphor of a car as a distancing measure works well in telling the story I am trying to tell.

I am pleased with the outcome of the edits. I mainly focused on the images that were most relevent to the story and clearly showed the effects of the pandemic. I chose these images as they were ther most successful out of the shoot for various reasons.

Image one: This image shows a man pushing a trolley full of shopping. He is wearing purple gloves which highlights the precautions of shopping during a pandemic. I like the composition of the image and the fact he isn’t face on with the camera and we can see the trolley clearly. To edit the image I used camera raw editor and lifted the exposure of the image, as I shot it under exposed. I also increased the clarity to bring up the details.

Image two: This image shows the iconic fast food restaurant Mcdonalds. I wanted to portray the unsual emptiness of the scene in an alternative way, so decided to take it from the inside of my car, looking out the back window. I shot the image a couple of shots underexposed in order to capture the detailing of the over cast sky and to make the seats and inside of the car dark to frame the window. In the editing process I lifted the highlights slightly and icreased the clarity to make the outcome more sharp.

Image three: Again, with this shot I attempted to use an alternative way of shooting the subject. I used the mirror from within my car to highlight the emptiness of the car park. I feel as if I could have used a more shallows depth of field in order to blur out the background more as it is slightly distracting.

Image four: I used reflections to capture another view of the car park. I used a shallow depth of field to blur out the majority of the image and chose to focus on the smaller mirror within the shot. I am pleased with the composition of the image and feel the background compliments the main focus of the image.

Image five: The final image is shot out the windscreen of my car. It shows Mcdonalds with a sign about the closure due to the pandemic. I set out to achieve informative images that tell the story about what the world looks like during a pandemic. The composition of the image works well and the car frames the shot and adds depth to it.
