AD4802 Photo-Story// Shoot 2

This is my second shoot from the series. I decided that after my first attempt I would focus more on people during shopping trips. I felt portraits in these scenes would display the worry and fear that surrounds people during the pandemic. I wanted to photograph people, as it’s what I enjoy the most and realised food shopping is the most likely place to find large groups of people. I looked out for people with masks, gloves and trolleys that held a lot of items, to make sure the context and story can be easily made out. After researching artists that are also documenting the pandemic, I thought more about their techniques and approach.

I selected some of my better shots from the shoot. I chose shots that were more obvious in terms of being about the pandemic, but also chose the ones with better composition. In my last shoot I found that some of my images were lacking some skills of a successful shot and I had only thought about composition in a few of them. I feel as if these image are better in terms of composition and I pre planned compostion in a lot of the shots, rather than shooting without purpose. I also went inside the supermarket in order to try out some alternative shots. I found shooting from my car to be more successful in terms of planning as I chose to park in a spot to plan the image and its surroundings, before waiting for a subject to walk into the frame. Although this technique can take a long time to get a successful subject, I found that when I did get the shot, it was a lot more successful. When I moved about with my camera in search for a subject, I had no control over the surrounding, which genreally lets the shot down and makes a more mediocre outcome.

To edit the images I used subtle changes where needed. I tried to shoot as accurate as I could to make the outcomes more real and I didn’t want to take away from the authenticity of documenting real life. The changes I frequentley made were bringing up the exposure, due to shooting to expose for the highlights. I also increased the clarity of the shots to make the outcome more sharp and detailed.
